Current COVID-19 Pandemic Quarantine & Future IBJJF Reopening

Latest IBJJF Covid - 19 UpdatesIBJJF Event Calendar

All events on the 2020 sports IBJJF Event Calendar remain suspended during the quarantine until government officials deem that conditions are safe to resume. IBJJF assures all its members academies and athletes who held valid IBJJF memberships on March 1, 2020 that their active memberships are extended from that exact date through for the entire period of the COVID-19 quarantine until the date of IBJJF’s first official reopening event.

IBJJF extends our good will to you, your families, and the Jiu-Jitsu community worldwide during this difficult and delicate test of patience and endurance as we all continue to work worldwide with central governments, health authorities, and local communities to observe all restrictions on travel and transportation, hospitals and health networks, gatherings of people, contact sports events, and strive to meet all of our health and safety needs prior to actively restarting academies, instruction, and current tournament season.

The reopening of Jiu-jitsu academies can occur only upon clear instructions from government officials. However, those rules and procedures will require further interpretation and application to our field once the quarantines are lifted. To begin that much-needed conversation within our communities worldwide, IBJJF recently published Guidelines For The Reopening of Jiu-jitsu Academies during Covid-19 Pandemic which outlines IBJJF’s view of what must be done to protect our members, safely reopen academies, and rapidly recoup their previous high degree of success. The Guidelines recommend necessary safety procedures and appropriate levels of physical contact for each type of training and aim to eliminate risk of infection and ensure good health while reviving the high-level discipline, instruction, and competition we have long maintained in academies, classes, and tournaments. Although not a replacement for government health laws and guidelines, these IBJJF policy recommendations are worthy to be embraced by our members as a first strong and solid step forward toward reopening academies and returning us back to our teaching, training, and competing in the fine sport of Jiu-jitsu.

We are grateful our training in the noble values of Jiu-Jitsu have granted us the focus, resilience, and fortitude to remain in this fight until we win. Until then, IBJJF stands firm with the entire Jiu-Jitsu community in its confidence that we and our sport will overcome all challenges and continue to look forward to reopening academies and returning to teaching and tournament competition.
